There’s something especially beautiful about fall in Metamora. As the leaves begin to turn, the quiet country roads surrounding the village wind through rolling fields, wooded stretches, wetlands and working horse farms, all framed by Michigan’s brilliant autumn color.
If you’re looking for an easy way to enjoy the season, take a drive through Metamora Hunt Country with one of our two scenic driving routes.
Explore Metamora’s Back Roads
Our Metamora Country Driving Tour offers two routes beginning near downtown Metamora, so you can choose the one that works best with where your day takes you.
Tour One is an approximately 10-mile route for those continuing south toward Oxford and M-24, while Tour Two heads southeast toward the Rochester area.
Both take you away from the busier roads and into the countryside that makes this corner of Michigan so special. In the fall, expect colorful tree-lined roads, open farmland, horse country and plenty of scenery worth slowing down for.
And we do mean slowing down. Many of these are quiet country roads with hidden driveways, gravel stretches, wildlife and horseback riders. Take your time and enjoy the drive.
Start or End Your Drive at the White Horse Inn
Of course, a fall drive is even better when there’s a cozy meal waiting at the end.
Make downtown Metamora your starting point or final stop and join us at the White Horse Inn. Our historic inn has been part of the village for more than 170 years, making it a fitting destination for a day spent exploring the surrounding countryside.
Settle in for lunch or dinner, warm up with a bowl of soup, enjoy a seasonal cocktail or simply take your time over a good meal before heading home.
Spend a Little More Time in Downtown Metamora
Before you leave, walk across the street to Metamora General and browse its collection of gifts, home goods and unique finds. Between the historic village, the surrounding horse country and the changing leaves, it’s an easy way to turn a simple fall drive into a full afternoon in Metamora.
