Here We Come A-Wassailing! 🎄🐴

Metamora’s most festive tradition returns on Sunday, December 7, 2025 at 2:00 PM — the annual Wassailing Celebration Horse & Carriage Holiday Parade, hosted by the Metamora Area Chamber of Commerce.

This one-of-a-kind holiday event embraces centuries of custom while showcasing what makes Metamora so special: horses, heritage, and community spirit.

What is Wassailing?

The word wassail comes from an old English toast meaning “to your health.” Traditionally, it was both a greeting of good cheer and the name of the warm mulled drink raised in the toast. Over time, wassailing evolved from lively, cider-fueled revelry into something closer to the caroling traditions we know today.

In Metamora, we honor the season with a uniquely local twist — an all-horse parade that brings the charm of Christmas past right down Main Street.

The Parade

Beginning at 2:00 PM, spectators can enjoy a dazzling display of horses and carriages, each decorated in holiday finery. Unlike most parades, there are no fire engines, no marching bands, and no motorcycles — just horses.

Every horse participant receives a commemorative ornament, and awards will be given across several categories. It’s a celebration of tradition, horsemanship, and holiday spirit that’s not to be missed.

Make a Day of It at the White Horse Inn

Whether you’re gathering with family before the parade or warming up afterwards, the White Horse Inn is the perfect place to enjoy the season. Step inside our historic inn for hearty Michigan flavors, festive cocktails, and the warmth of a crackling fire.

Reservations are recommended for parade day, as this beloved community celebration draws guests from all across the region.
